Be a Writer for ElysianIsland!

We are looking for a team of writers that will write articles that fit into the categories of:

• Equipment (this can be general eg, I’ve written one on wetsuits and drysuits, or equipment reviews)
• Marine Life (from fishes, to jellyfish – anything you might meet on a dive)
• People (anyone who is connected to or important within the diving world – past or present)
• Safety/Medical (safety or medical issues related to diving)
• Theory ( this can be dive theory, from beginner to advanced, or practical skills advice etc)
• Travel (Dive destination reviews, wreck reviews etc)

Currently we are publishing 3 articles per week, but if we get enough interest, we will publish up to 7 articles per week.

We can provide you with titles, or you can make them up yourself.

The articles must be original and not posted anywhere else on the internet.

You will retain copyright for articles you produce for us, and in return, ElysianIsland obtains exclusive, perpetual online license to those articles.  We retain this license in order to control reprints so the articles you produce for us aren’t competing against any other copies of the same article on other sites.  Of course there is nothing stopping you writing a short summary of your article on your website with a link through to ElysianIsland, so your readers can still read your work.

What does the writer get out of this arrangement?

Although you won’t be paid for your work (this may change in the future), you will have the opportunity to win a prize at the end of each month.  The writer who gets the most hits in one day will win a prize at the end of the month, so if you write an article that gets published on the 1st, you have 30 chances of winning that prize, if it publishes on the 31st, you get 1 shot!  Obviously we will offer publish dates around so every one gets a fair chance!  This encourages a high standard of writing and content as well as encouraging writers to promote their work on twitter, facebook, forums etc.

Prizes could include iTunes vouchers, Amazon vouchers, iPods, dive equipment – value will vary.  You will be sent a report at the end of each month showing your daily hit counts on each article that you wrote, who won the prize (+ what hit count they got) and what next months prize is.

If you own your own blog or website, there will also be the opportunity to link back with your site, which will give you new readers and raise your search engine rankings.

What commitment does the writer need to make?

No commitment!  You can write 1 article every other month and still have the opportunity to win the prize, or you can write 5 times per week!  But please bear in mind we will only publish articles of decent quality and they will be checked for uniqueness.  Generally the more unique and valuable the content is to readers, the more hits it will get!
